Recently our friend and client Tressa of Dress Me Up sent me an email asking for help and support for a family in our community. Baby Molly Campbell is just one month old and has been diagnosed with leukemia. She has four siblings and a mom and dad who need her to survive this tough fight. Since treatment is in Vancouver that need all the help we can give so they can spend time with Molly as she undergoes treatment. We have donated a portrait session and print and we encourage you all to come out and bid on an auction item at Koffi or visit Molly’s site and check out the other fundraising events or donate funds directly. If you have something you would like to donate please use your blogs, etsy sites, whatever resource you have. A little goes a long way when it comes from an entire community.

This August while we were in the Okanagan for Katie and Tyson’s wedding we were able to squeeze in a sweet little session with one of our favourite families. We first photographed Ben and Lisa on their wedding day and since then we have captured Lisa’s baby belly, little baby Oliver and gorgeous Bella, and now we were so happy to meet sweet little Layla Grace. It is a really special thing to be able to watch a family grow right before you and to be the ones that record all the big moments – I think they may be our most photographed family and you can find them all over our website. It was a really warm summer day and my mom’s yard (lovely mama of Em
) is really like the perfect outdoor studio including amazing props! My mom likes to have old things in her garden among the vines and flowers and this old blue pram was perfect for Layla. Welcome to the world little Layla we are so happy to have met you!

Fall is so gorgeous and colourful so why not have story time with Grandma and Grandpa in a cornfield and a little playtime in a pumpkin patch that is just for you. We watched the birds, explored the pumpkins, chased Zoey as she tried to move around as fast as possible without tipping over on uneven ground dressed in pumpkin vines, we laughed when Lucy pointed with her little finger and reported in her own little language that Zoey was no longer sitting on her pumpkin, and we watched the looming clouds and hoped it wouldn’t rain on this day we were all so excited for. It was a perfect little session with these two little twin pumpkins and so worth the wait. Can’t wait to see you again!

We loved Joyce and Antonio’s wedding – loved it. It was the perfect wedding to end the summer season. Joyce and Antonio weren’t quite sure of all that entailed a wedding in Canada as most of their wedding experience was learned in the two wedding parties thrown for them in their homes in Taiwan and Macau. Yes you read that correctly – two! We loved our one wedding but having a total of three parties would have been fantastic! By the time we arrived at the Greater Victoria Art Gallery no one would ever have known this was their first Canadian wedding experience – everything was perfect. We arrived to find by fortunate coincidence that our sweet friend Lucy was their mc for the day and she did an amazing job. The ceremony was in the gallery’s terraced garden surrounded by bonsai, bamboo, and oaks. Joyce looked so beautiful and her friend Megumi, from the Ginger Group did an amazing job on her hair – we loved her long romantic curls. We wanted to combine some of the city in Joyce and Antonio’s images so I had spotted a quiet downtown building and knew for months that it was theirs. The bus was a quick splurge – like it was waiting there empty just for us. We had such a lovely afternoon out with them, traipsing through the tall blanched september grasses. We were happy to capture some of their silly side when Aaron caught their little inside jokes against the art installation by Miss Conception. The evening ended with quite possibly the most fun we witnessed this summer when their friend and DJ Roman Yue played “A Little Bit of Monica” while Antonio’s sister led everyone in a group line dance – so priceless! Thanks so much to Joyce and Antonio for bringing us along on your day – it was sweet and lovely – just like the both of you.

We have the coolest clients – really! Simon was so excited about planning the wedding that he contacted us about availability before he had even proposed!! As soon as we met Stephanie and Simon we knew these two were seriously in love and that they were going to have one very fantastic wedding. The whole affair was held on Thetis Island on the small farm where Stephanie grew up and it really took an Island to pull off this wedding. There is something very special about small rural places and even better to have your wedding in the place that made you who you are. The girls all got ready in her parents old farm house and the ceremony and reception were down in a field with cows grazing in the background. Stephanie and her helpers spent months searching for vintage floral table cloths, tins, vases, and mason jars to complete this beautiful vintage farm look. There were so many special things to remind Stephanie of those closest like her grandmother’s veil and heirloom engagement ring. Stephanie was truly blessed with the most amazing flowers from Quack Farm nursery who specially grows and gifts their former employees with their flowers on their wedding day – which resulted in the largest most stunning bouquet ever! It was really special to scout locations with Stephanie and Simon as she shared her childhood haunts with us. She is one of the lucky few to have actually attended a one room school house! Every once in a while a couple inspires us to do something a little different. Stephanie is a visual artist and has a love of photography so we decided to bust out our old polaroid and let them have a session photographing each other. We were really glad we did as they loved it and left them with some special keepsakes from their day (watch for a later post on this). Stephanie and Simon are so in love that they could barely keep themselves from giggling all day! We wish you two all the very best and are so happy that you shared not only your wedding with us but also your beautiful island home.

Recently we spent a sunny late summer morning having a visit with our new little friend West. We have gotten to know West’s dad Michael through his dedicated support of our favourite cause Power To Be Adventure Therapy and it was so great to meet Jen and West and spend some time with them at their home. Photographing little kids can be challenging – this little guy doesn’t really have a slow mode it is pretty much go go go – but it can also be the most rewarding. When little ones are comfortable in their own environment they just do what they do and you can really capture their personality. This little guy is really into his firetrucks, books with bananas in them, and a crazy little car that he is incredibly adept at maneuvering. His favourite word at the time was “more” – he just wanted more more more of everything! So we chased him around the deck, through the yard, then down the lane to the beach and back. By the end of the session we finally saw a yawn but I think he was the one who wore us out! We love little ones but this might be a favourite age as he definitely won us over with his dimples and sheer determination to investigate everything, climb anything, and try to do everything himself. We had such a great time playing with this sweet family and can’t wait to see more of them in the future!

When we received Jackie and Chris’ invitation last winter we knew this was going to be one stylish and creative event. What looked to me like a glossy abstract sheen on their invitation was recognized by Aaron as a map of the Gulf Islands! These two architects designed the most gorgeous DIY wedding we have ever seen and it was such a pleasure to be there to witness not only the incredible thought and details that went into planning and decorating this wedding but also the heartfelt love that was shared by everyone there. Saturna is a small Island and Jackie and Chris had to bring almost everything over with them – including the tables!!! They had a lot of help from friends and family with their stationary decor designed by Groomsman Matthias Smale, handmade wooden benches with cushions that matched the table runners, the wooden backdrop for the ceremony, paper pinwheels, and their extremely cute look-a-like cake topper. If we ever need any buildings designed we are definitely calling these two! The day was really hot and sunny and Saturna’s East Point Park, that looks more east coast than west, was an incredible place to shoot and the Saturna Lodge provided a warm sheltered evening for the reception. These two have now headed off on an international adventure of living and studying in Europe. It seemed meant to be that we had just purchased an old pull down map of the world on our way to Saturna from the interior. It made a perfect backdrop for this creative and adventurous couple. Thanks so much to Jackie and Chris for choosing us for your day! We loved every minute spent on Saturna and thanks to you we now have a new favourite place to visit where we can sit on a deck and listen to whales go by, eat the best pizza ever on sandy beaches, and nibble on the best spelt/oat chocolate cookies ever tasted (but keep it between us because we want the place all to ourselves
).

On a perfectly sunny day at a private home near Elk Lake Danielle and Brett got married! Kind family friends let them use their gorgeous property overlooking the lake which made for a beautiful summer evening. Danielle and her mom worked really hard on all the details of this day with apple candle holders, buckets of dahlias, handmade luggage tags, and a garden seating chart. The very sweet traditional cake was made by Danielle’s Grandma. There were a lot of kids at this wedding which is always fun but these little guys nearly stole the show from the super sweet flower girl to the mini beat boys on the dance floor. Thanks so much to Danielle and Brett for sharing your beautiful day with us!

This summer we have had the treat of shooting a number of weddings away from home. In August we headed out on a two week road trip and right in the middle of it we got to spend a beautifully stormy Okanagan day with Katie and Tyson at Paddle Wheel Park in Vernon BC. When we were scouting locations a few days before the wedding we were a bit worried about the weather because it was so so hot. I fear I have really become an Islander now as I don’t enjoy the searing heat quite as much as I did when I used to live in it! The morning of the wedding we became a bit more concerned about the wind, rain, and potential thunder and lightening than hot sunshine! The weather ended up being perfect as the breeze kept us cool and the skies gave us beautiful cloudy textures and the rain waited until just before the reception. Tyson and Katie found us through his sister Shani who we have had the great pleasure of working with before. It was so much fun to reconnect with Shani and her family and to make new friends in Tyson and Katie. Tyson is really into fly fishing so there were fly hooks in the boutonnieres and a fishing bride cake topper snagging her groom. Tyson and Katie received a lot of help from friends and family as they live in Ontario and planned the wedding from afar. Shani and her friends did a lot of the decorating, which resulted in one of the prettiest ceremony setups that we have seen, and the evening ended with Tyson and Katie dancing to a live trumpet performance by Katie’s brother Dan. Thanks so much to Shani for recommending us for this day and to Tyson and Katie for being so much fun. Here are some of our favourites from the day and all the best wishes to you both!!
